Title: kx500 with very weak spark
Post by: bjohn07 on March 28, 2013, 05:43:17 AM
so yesterday i rode the bike a few hours.  rode good till the last hour, then started bogging down on top end.    parked it.  came out this morning to start it and warm it up and it wouldnt start.  tried for about 20 mins then gave up.  it usually starts cold in 5 kicks.      put a new plug in it.  still no start.  pulled the tank and cut a piece about 1/4" of spark plug wire so it would have a cleaner contact point.  still no start. i used a spark plug tester i have that supposed to let you see the spark when grounded and it wont even spark.  i touched the wire to the frame and it makes a small crackling sound, so im assuming its really weak since it dont spark like it should.      im not sure how to test the coil or cdi.  can anyone point me in the right direction of how much resistance it should have.   or where to start.  im lost at this point.   i already pulled all the connections to make sure they are clean.

Maybe in the right hands, in your area, it can be ready to ride when you get home? I am willing to help if possible.

id appreciate it.  i found a coil for a decent price.  now just trying to convince the wife that it would be better for me to buy a stator than to sell it.    i told her its a sign it broke and i cant sell a broken bike.
