I was under the impression that the Tecate and the KX250 shared the same engine.
-
nope. close but not the same. the porting was differnt and the tranny was geared different in 84-85 t3. the 86-87 t3 have totally different power valves.
-
IT'S A KX MOTOR. THE TECATE MOTOR WITH THAT STYLE OF POWER VALVE ACTUATOR WOULD BE COUNTERBALANCED AND WOULD HAVE CAME FROM A TECATE-4. I'D GUESS THAT'S AN 87 KX250 MOTOR.

the 86-87 tecate 3 had the KIPS engine with no counter balancer. the power valve actuator parts were located above the water pump. not like that one.
