Title: Engine year new Kawasaki owner
Post by: TrevorWilliams on February 03, 2013, 12:57:08 PM
Hey new to forum and Kawasaki. I have a kx500 in a 2008 Kawasaki 450 frame. Very fun bike but I need to do some fine tuning to the motor. The motor is labeled kx500BE002517 if someone can figure out the year it would be much appreciated.

I'm just taking a shot in the dark here...but I'm thinkin it's an 86 motor.I'm sure someone else can either confirm this...or correct me on this.

On a 17 digit Vin. #  the 10th digit designates the year.

1980 = A     1990 = L       2000 = Y
1981 = B     1991 = M      2001 = 1
1982 = C     1992 = N      2002 = 2
1983 = D     1993 = P      2003 = 3
1984 = E     1994 = R      2004 = 4
1985 = F     1995 = S
1986 = G     1996 = T
1987 = H     1997 = V
1988 = J      1998 = W
1989 = K     1999 = X

Hmmm how hard do you think it will be to find parts for that year of motor?  Should I just Buck up and update it with the newer model motor? Btw it runs good just needs some fine tuning.
