Wait!! Thats not me, thats Jeff Emig at the MX Des Nations.......that year they had 2 back to back down hill doubles that the Americans turned into one big quad jump....Emig said in an interview that he was still getting used to the 500 and grabbed a bit too much throttle and accidently jumped it as a quad jump.....scared the piss out of himself...hahahaha

OK...really.....here is a picture of me jumping my old KX500........

d**n It!!! Thats not me either.....thats Tom Webb testing the 92 KX500 for dirt rider......Tom Webb has ridden more bikes that most of us combined and he still considers the K5 one of his all time favorite mounts. He was no slow poke in the desert either.
-
OK this one is definitly me.........

Ah Hell!!!......Thats just Mike LaRocco jumping his 500 for Dirt Bike magazine........Mike was the last ever 500cc ama national champ....1993 was the sad year we said goodbye to the 500's. This magazine shoot and the 94 MX Des Nations were the only occasions were Mike got to rock his #1 plate on the K5. Check out the trick 2-piece clutch cover on that factory bike.

have a better rez shot of that one? somthing goofy up with the engine cases and waterpump

Here is the link to the dirtbike article......there is a bigger shot of LaRocco and the bike......

While I'm at it......here is the link to the article in Racer X.....Jeff Emig talks about his first ever ride on a 500 two stroke at the 96 Des Nations.....very good read.

This is also the view Doug Henry got when he brutally over jumped at Budds Creek ! :-o

Nearly 18 years since that Doug Henry "free fall"...and it still turns my stomach to watch it.
-
Doug is a tough man......Buds Creek crash broke his back.....came back and broke both arms.....came back and finished his back off.......in a wheel chair and still rockin and rollin......My hats off to you Doug.

I have a 1992 supercross that I taped on a VHS tape, and STILL have it....where Doug went over the bars of his YZ125 off a table-top into a set of whoops.....he just layed there on his back with his arms up like a dead squirrel in the road.It was from that point on,I always watched and admired him, knowing he was a New Englander.

Once you get past the ad it's a good video:

Foxx, you will appreciate and relate to this : Watching Doug race as a 125 pro in New England was a privilage, he was SO fast and precise, as was John Down, and the "amazon expert" Jo Jo Keller ! Here's a recent inspiring Youtube comment by Jo Jo for all us old expired MX guys :
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KNVOmKC8A6s
I will never give in to "not riding" resulting from old age I just have to rethink an match my current skill and stamina to the right bike !
I'm actually going to get back to old skool 125cc 2 stroke simplicity. Looking to get a late model YZ125, and build a "rider friendly" 144cc bike with a FWW to broaden the midrange. My hip is healing excellent, and I will be 100% healthy after one final hernia repair in another week... 2013 is looking GOOD for me from looking through MX goggles !

Polar, yeah I've seen that video clip of JoJo before. That was the last time he was seriously into riding. He was being sponsored by Joe Cedrone right here in Plymouth, who owns a fitness machine company...lol,kinda ironic since he was about 375lbs there....and still lapping kids 35 years younger than him.
JoJo's been in hiding the last few months....we have'nt seen or heard much from him since August.
I hear ya....I'll be riding til the day I can't see any longer...I figure another 25 years,if I make it that long!!
That's awesome you're doing good and looking to get a 125...I want one too,so I can have a all three in my living room...500,250,and 125.
I'm actually heading out on the K5 in about an hour....it's already 52 degrees here!!...had light snow yesterday!
-
That MXDN video is cool......you can see Emigs body english that he was pretty timid on the 500. Lots of easy throttle, wide lines, and very little movement in the air......He did a great job for never swinging a leg over anything that powerful......not to mention that the K5 handles like a tank compared to his KX250 of that year.
-
Yeah that MXDN vid was good...thanks for posting that Dutchie!!....even though I could'nt understand a d**n thing the commentators were saying,it was still cool to watch and hear all the 2Ts!!

One of the things the commentators said was that Lamson was a full second a lap faster than Emig..........30 min of video will take too long for me to translate over but imagine every MX race you've ever seen and the commentation was pretty much the same.
-
I was hoping one of you guys would know what they saying
It did realy looked like Emig was riding it for years.
And my brother told me that Steve Lamson was the first and only rider to win both races on a 125 in a MXDN.
There so many great video's on youtube of mxdn and old GP's.
