Like the title says what would you get & why from the new current offerings.
Myself I'd take about any of the new six speed 300cc bikes. Just cause they're the biggest offered & an extra gear would be REALLY nice. In this order
KTM 300 , they're so refined & parts are available
Gas Gas 300 , Gas Gas has been making "sweet" trials bike for years & they gotta know 2T torque from that experience
Husaberg 300 = Light , would need to be a 2012 as 2013 has a PLASTIC subframe
& Husky's bike ummm ..... They "were" exceptional in the late 70's early 80's but the only truly great equipment they offed since is a CHAINSAW
Correct me if I'm wrong I tell me what I've missed or you think is the cat's meow

A pw50. If it wasn't freaking red sticker. REALLY!

In your neck of the woods I'd go with this.

I'm really interested if the new Ossa actually hits production or not... and if it does, will it work or just be another "Cannondale" disaster.

If I were actually in the market, I would buy a new Gasgas. I have an older model, and it is fantastic.

KTM is the most mainstream and the most proven. Good dealer network and racer support too.

Agreed!
There is nothing worse then not being able to get support or parts for your ride.
-
in the US i'd say KTM, then after that a yz250. ktm's 250 kills the yz though, since the yz is pretty much unchanged for a LONG time r&d wise.
a friend has the ktm 300 enduro 2ST and loves it.

TM here in europe are becoming popular and are supposed to be very powerful bikes. Dunno if they are available in America though
-
I have a TM dealer in my town... yet he only gets in the MX bikes. That has never made sense to me.
-
After seeing that Husqvarna is possably planning a road legal 2 stroke dual sport for 2014 I am holding off to see how it specs out.
-
TM does make a sweet looking bike & yes they do come into the states.
http://www.tmmotorcyclesusa.com/EN-300-2T.html Looks they've ditched the Ohlins all around :-(. $1000 more than the others
As for parts & the KTM I read last night that the Husaberg is a KTM since 2011. Only with a headlight & 3 gal tank instead of 2 1/2, as well as cheaper.
I really like the "dream bike" IDKX500, what do they get for those $15000?
The OSSA's pipe looks tasty, It really does make sense to package it that way to boot. Hows the Gas Gas for getting part's?
I really aint in the market, it's just that the question of declining offroad bike sales has been brought up & the best way to sway the manufacturer's is buy what we want to see produced. What's the biggest KTM 300's can go ? I've seen 330's but that side of Pinssonault's site been down for a bit.
PW550 would rock

$8995 If you go to the website you'll see it is a GasGas motor. I've had very excellent service for parts for my KX450F Christini. The design to put power to the front wheel is simpler than it may appear and low maintenance.

Christini is doing some interesting new things. I believe the bikes will be around for the long haul.

Does any one know where TM gets there motor and frame designs? i like there bikes but is it a KTM based motor like husaberg? and is the frame based off a modern day japan 450 or there design? that is what i would be looking at before making a big purchase. all the 300 2t are way cool but in reality i love the flex of a steel frame.
Personally id pick a husaberg 300 TE for it's so close to a KTM 300 that parts would not be to hard to find and the husa has the mapping switch, headlight/tail light and a few smaller things that would suit just perfect for my types of riding down here in Navada (lots of hard desert, sand, gravel washes, as well as mountain riding.

I talked with Christini about a AFK5. They said they could do it. Only thing is they have to modify the tank so much you lose some range. It would be better to put it in a 08 or newer KTM 450ish chassis. So a KTM K5 Chrisitini!!!???? Might have to dust off my e-start plans and get to work!!!

I've had the same bike bouncing around in my head. Found a KTM 520 roller,,, found out it is the old chassis. Need the newer frame.
What I like on the Christini 300 is the e-start option,,6 speed,,, off the rack pretty sweet bikes.

Hows the Gas Gas for getting part's?
I've actually never had to purchase genuine Gas Gas parts for mine. The Ohlin's forks take the same seals as my KX500, the rest of the chassis was basically a rip-off of a 90's perimeter frame KX250. Brake parts, etc all had a japanese cross reference. The engine parts I've needed were able to use Suzuki.
Things might be different now, but on my old 2002, it's almost like a frankenbike taking parts from a bunch of other bikes.
-
frankenbike :-D Thats great , my wife give's me crap about my Frankenstein creations.
I'm amazed at the price of the Christini, they must have a dang good "in" with Gas Gas considering just the bike retails around $7800
http://www.christini.com/awd-technology/about-the-technology
Quite interesting how they've transfered the power
They even offer a frame kit, there you go AF550 Christini would be pretty slick
