Title: KIPS assembly
Post by: gwcrim on October 04, 2012, 10:05:03 AM
Putting the top end back together on the KX250.  There's a rod that runs horizontally from the barrel valve that actuates the main valve.  It looks like it would fit either way but one end of it has a groove around it and is slotted on the end.  Which way goes in?

Oh and if anyone can point me to any instructions with photos, I'd be happy.   :-D

The end with the slot (like a flat blade screwdriver slot) goes to the OUTSIDE, there should be a "Dot" on the gear of the shaft that goes thru the center valve, the dot will line up with the "Mark" on the shaft you have questioned about.
Hope this answers your ?

P.S.: The KTM looks nice

As luck would have it, that's the way I figured it went in.  It's been several years since I did my K5 top end so my memory was a bit cloudy and the set up is quite different on the main valve.  Got it all together last night but have a missing E clip. DAMMIT!

I've only had one small spin in the woods on the 300XC.  Reminds me of my K5 with ample torque.  Looking forward to having a chance to open 'er up.

Thanks for you help.
