I'll take a set :-D

Hmmm
wonder if someone can copy these...
(thought I remember seeing these on here)

OHHHHH LARRY
-
I'll take 2 sets.
-
I just spoke with Larry & will be sending him my adjustable pull rods / dog bones. He has the means to make these, but also noted the adjustable feature would add a few dollars to the overall cost, but can make them non adjustable if needed.
If you would like a set of these (& are commited to buy as Motorrad stated) post saying so (& if more then 1 set as Supercub has) to let Larry know for pricing.

-
I'm in for a set.
-
Make my 2 sets adjustable.
-
I'll take a set!
-
Adjustable is what I REALLY want. That way if I don't like the way the shorter rod handles. I can adjust it back to stock, and still have a blingy part on the bike And would love Larry to do the work.
-
I'm willing to pay for adjustables, although I would also pay right now for a fixed 132.5mm set. Can you imagine the amount of research that Team Green did to test these? if you want better handling in tight areas, the 132.5mm length has a proven track record that I have no doubt will improve handling. Every picture of a Team Green KX500 that I look at has the Pro Circuit dog bones. They were probably foregone or stripped on the practice bike I bought.
My next sought after mod after these dog bones, is a Team Green modified silencer (oem silencer shortened by 3-inches and a welded sparky at the end). My FMF is a POS in my opinion. Seems so restrictive an quality compared to oem is ridiculous. Leaks well before the packing needs to be changed and this is with a motor that was correctly jetted on a dynomometer.
-
Put me down for a set please. Whether they be adjustable or fixed, I would like a set. Your time is much appreciated on this!
-
2 sets please
-
ILL take a set.
-
I will take a set. Thanks!!

Pull Rods should be in Larrys possesion now..........just need to give him a little time to do all of the measuring and CAD design work and should be able to give us a cost estimate in the near future...........be patient, his work is worth it. :-D

DoldGuy
Just so everyone knows... I am waiting on larry or doldguy to drop us all the details..... as he (larry) will be able to pump these out just as fast as emig would.. Larry being a smaller operation, will get us a better product for our $$... and waiting a extra week (at worse) for adjustable rods... is well worth it in my book
and larrys work is like the best cupcake a fat kid has ever had!
Doldguy has been chatting with larry.. I have not... so Im just putting words in peoples mouths if I say anything as far as details..
Ill shut up now and update the "LIST"..
This is the list so far... Did I miss anyone?

I don't mean to sound too naive, but what exactly are these for?
-
Bump
-
I wouldn't mind a set either. Just need a little more clarification of what these exactly do for the suspension
-
Am I to late? If not Il take a set.
-
Any idea of the $$$ ? :?

They are in larrys hands... waiting for him to finish it up in CAD and get to us on Price.
Balls in your Court Larry
-
I would be interested in the adjustable one's if they are able to go shorter AND longer then stock.
-
I am quite new to this site as well as a new k5 owner so bare with me please, assuming these can be shortened to improve the bikes handling in tight wooded areas does that mean longer would improve straight line stability (not that the K5 needs it)? and if so could you please put me down for a set i would like to try them out? :-)
-
I want some if the wallet can take it.
I know a great machinst is worth his weight in gold but I`m not able to come up with that much gold,
I guess this means put me down for a maybe?

what exactly do these do to the suspension over the stock length? Sorry, I guess this is one thing I'm not up on.

what exactly do these do to the suspension over the stock length? Sorry, I guess this is one thing I'm not up on.
I'm wondering the same thing. Shorter links will raise the rear end and steepen the steering angle, making the bike turn better.
Does anyone know what the hot set-up is for a 500? Doldguy said 2mm shorter did good things for his 250. If some magic length was known to be beneficial, simple non adjustable links could be manufactured at much lower cost than blingy Devol copies.
Looking for some first hand test experience here....

The magic length was 132.5 mm. The shortened length reduces the linkage ratio between the axle and the shock, meaning that as you would bounce over rocks and cause your rear wheel to rise and fall, the shock would be moving less as opposed to longer dog bones. This would reduce the bucking effect experienced over rough terrain. The shorter dog bones also allow the rider's weight to shift forward.
-
so if I'm understanding this right, would this also require a change in shock springs? I assume the shorter length makes the rear end ride higher which is what helps a rider get over the front? Is this a problem with the KX 500? I just have not noticed any bucking over rough terrain (could the bucking over rough terrain be more for high speed rough terrain like in a desert?), I wonder though if part of that is the fact that I'm a big guy and getting forward is not hard. I do have a short inseam so if the shorter dog bones would raise the seat height, that would not be good for me.
-
I have no first hand experience with theses, but I remember talking to some of the Team Green desert racing mechanics/riders, and they say the shorter dog bones improve the turning of the kx500, and make it easier to ride in technical sections. As far as bucking over rough terrain, I was describing another benefit I thought about once I was thinking about how they would affect the geometry of the suspension. There is no need to change the rear spring as a result of the shorter dogbones, but of course it would be a good time to grease and/or replace all of your bearings and adjust your rear sag. I would think that lowering the forks in the triple clamps will help offset any negative effects the shorter dogbones would have on high speed stability. Also, I want to mention that all of these Team Green KX500s had offset triple clamps. Mine came with a BRP upper and stock lower. It was amazing how many parts they kept stock if they could.
-
I would like to get a set if it's not to late.
Thanks Al

I would also like a couple of sets too please

Does any one know what's the best material to use for making these dog bones. Been looking at links made for newer bikes and they say they are made with T7050 alloy. Got a work mate who got the tooling to make a set for me. Just need to make sure it made with something that's not going to break. Anyone got any experience with aluminium alloys.
-
7075 or 2024 are higher strength than 6061. Search for Fortal 7075. Great material for this type of part.
Larry
-
Ok Larry thanks for that will look into that
-
Emig will be setup to make em within a week to two weeks time
;0)
-
Ok that also sounds like a possibility

Not possibility, Fact..
They are doing a small run of them for me to start. After that they will have the CAD program on hand. So all you guys have to do is call, give them $90.

I just installed my EMIG Racing Dog Bones.........
With the bike on the stand and the rear end unloaded I measured on the left side of the bike using the 8mm seat bolt to the center of the rear axle as reference. I end up with an additional 10mm of height on the back end using those reference points with the EMIG Racing Dog Bones.
-
I just got mine and they taste great! :-D
A big thanks goes out to Motorrad for his help in this project.
-
I got mine in, and they'll be going on today. My suspension is coming up from Daytona with my Race Tech technician(Becks Tech Suspension). With my new oversized front rotor and braided line, Gold Valved and re-sprung suspension with the Emig links, it should be fantastic. I will be riding a fast mx track Sunday with a lot of off camber jumps, rollers and big step ups- results to follow... Thanks to Motorrad for making these links available!
-
Anyone actually Run a set yet?
Mine are still sittting on my computer desk... as I cant even afford to pay attention... let alone buy fuel and go ride.
-
Too sniveling cold up my way for riding.
Besides, it's a lot easier sleeping with the dog bones under my pillow then trying to drag the whole bike up on my bed :-D
-
I found a use for your old ones.
We are in the process of moving my 13 yr old boy from his kx100 to his 01 kx250 I had a spare set of kx500 bones and they bolted right on to the 250 and lowered the seat hight 1 1/2" and slid the forks down 3/4" gave us 2" total on the seat hight.
-
Nice, I'll keep that in mind for my 13 year old.
It's actually hard to find a bike that really fits him.
-
the 250 is still to tall for him but if I dont get him off the 100 I will be rebuilding it again hes to the point that hes never letting off of it and its going to scatter.
-
I've ridden mine on a pretty rutted motocross track in South Carolina - the combination of the correct springs, valving and the dogbones was outstanding! The bike turns better than when I had the forks run up in the clamps... I'm running 100mm of sag- fresh linkage bearings as well. Nice improvement for the investment.
-
Just ordered some.....cant wait to get them on.
-
Ordered today! I've been having a heck of a time trying to get this bike to turn on a MX track so I am crossing my fingers this helps get me going in the right direction. Thanks to everyone who helped initiate this.

It helps bro......My K5 is a much nicer beast in the tight stuff.....set up right I'll bet its a mad man on a MX track.
-
So how is everyone liking these?
I know I would never go back to stock.
MUCH MUCH better in every day riding, turns better, and seems to go through rough junk better.
yet. I dont notice any differance in high speed to speak of. (Given , My rake angles arnt stock, and I run a damper)..
the only negative I can speak of.
is.
a short bastard like me, the k5 is already tall, and hard to kick (why manufacutres didnt follow husky, maico, montesa, bultaco's, KTM's lead and put the kicker on the left side, I will never know.) the dogbones make it just higher enough to make it a PITA for me to kick on flat ground, so I now hunt for curbs, ditches, etc
-
Funny - I'm 6'3" and love the increased height.
I ordered a set and it was super easy - 90 bucks plus a modest amount for shipping - arrived in 2 days from MO to CA. I rode for the first time with them last Friday at a SoCal MX track. For me, it was a night and day difference. Finally, I feel like I can ride this bike versus the other way around.
I built this bike ('96) from the ground up and the attitude of the chassis was always off. Pro Circuit revalved and resprung the bike, and they were pretty far off on the rear shock spring. Once I got the proper spring on, it was still riding like a chopper, even with the proper sag. Could not get the bike to turn AT ALL. Also, the front forks were beating me up because the rear was so soft. With the link, and that extra weight on the front end, it was the final piece of the puzzle. It fixed the cornering problem, and fixed my front forks also. What a difference. For what it's worth, I'm a Vet Intermediate.
Now I just gotta iron out a few more details and I'm dialed to go vintage racing alongside my CR480. 8-)
Thanks to all who were involved in bringing these to market.

so do we order these from emig racing? i looked all over there site and dont see them... also they have a lot of tripple tree conversions, they should make a complete setup for the kx500 to the kfx250-450 fork setup....

i've been highly anticipating your feedback

Its cool when you call to order you talk with Jeff Emig's dad. Does not usually happen like that.
-
Since I rode in the sand turning isn't a problem for me so I didn't notice any difference.
In the short choppy whoops and the long rolling whoops the rear end hop is all but eliminated.
Get your suspension done, put these dog bones in, and ride with more confidence over the rough stuff then ever before.
Thanks goes to Yodarad for getting these done....
-
Hey, I have a 87 KX250. How would I find out the length of the DMC dogbones? Or what length would work best for my bike?
Thanks Mike
-
Rode it hard over miles of whoops today.
I couldn't be happier..... :-)
-
orderd mine today.. i hope they work as you guys say and help fix the wondering of these kx500s.. ill test them saturday and will be racing sunday..

I like recommendations like these! I ordered a set today! Can't wait to throw em on the bike!
-
make sure you set the sag up like its suppose to be... they deff made my bike turn and ride alot better.. thanks guys..
also procircuit still list these for the kx450 in the 132.5mm for $224.00... thats crazy..

I ordered a set today! Can't wait to throw em on the bike!
I recieved the dog bones from Emig, and they do look to be very well made. However, upon comparison with the stock KX500 dog bones, I am wishing that the Emig made parts had the steel bushings in the bolt holes that the factory parts have. I am a bit concerned about the holes in the new Emig dog bones becoming oval shaped with use.
Anyone have any thoughts about this? Am I worrying too much? :?

I have emig bones on my KTM that have beet across country off road 3 times. And have over 18,000 miles off road on them.. With ZERO wear... Needless to say... Your over thinking / worrying.
-
Motorrad are you running these on your motard. I understand the quicker turning shorter dog bones but wondering if longer would be an advantage on the street.

I did this before/after measurement as well. I got about 12mm additional height when I measured from the rearmost subframe bolt on the left side.
I just took the bike for a ride, and it definitely turns better with no loss of stability at higher speeds! NICE!
-
If these dog bones help the bike turn do they also keep the back end on the ground when attacking whoops? I ride mx and my back end seems to kick up under braking and riding whoops is tricky. Ive been adjusting fork height and shock settings but not getting very far.
-
Just had a ratch through my shed and spotted the Pro Circuit dogbones I bought ages ago, been working hard and not making much money for a while now and never even got round to fitting them.
Measured them and sure enough they are 132.5mm between centres.
Recently paid for a rear subframe thats to go onto my "spare" 500 so with luck I'll have two working KX500s when I get the money to sort a few other issues on it. One road titled with supermoto wheels and the other with MX wheels.
As they are both 90 models I'm thinking I might use the road kit for one on the other bike to get it titled for the road as well.
.
-
Has anyone tried to install kxf450 07-08 dogbones that are 132.5 stock?
-
The links are a completely different style. KX450 link will not bolt on or be modified to be bolted on.
-
Hi,
Are these still available and would you post to the UK ?
Thanks
-
Contact Emig Racing.
-
Thanks done 👍🏻
-
Can you make any to fit my kx250 1999?
-
Were the Pro-Circuit dogbonesb 132.5mm as well?
-
yes
-
How do these effect spring rate and sag setting? Does it increase suspension travel, therefore requiring a little more sag, and/or a stiffer spring?
-
As near as I could tell it didn't change much if anything at all except it turned a bit sharper and the back end was a little higher.
-
Hello everyone, brother in law owns a machine shop and I had him make me a set of 132.5 dog bones. He has made 5 sets with bearing sleeves. If anyone is interested, let me know.
-
Where do you measure the seat height? On the highest point back of seat or in the saddle before the tank? I forget. Mine doesn't look tall enough. Just got it, it may have been altered.
-
Oh yeah its several inches short looks like. My XR650L is 37" and its tall compared to this. I'll have the subframe off this afternoon to see whats up. What could make that much difference? cut spring?
-
May not be as bad as I thought. I just measured it. The saddle area is around 35.5 but its in the bed of my truck with the tie downs on it pulling the shocks down.
-
Whats the stock length on the dogbones and will the shorter ones give me some more height?
-
