Hi guys,
I am looking at making some shorter dog bones like the Pro Circuit ones you used to be able to buy. It is to suit a 1990 KX 500. Anybody know how much shorter they were? Standard is about 134mm between centres. I have watched ebay in Australia for awhile but haven't seen any.
Hopefully someone will know????
Thanks in advance

I know that info is on the site somewhere.. I did a quick search and ddint see it.
Ill dig more when I get to work, and see if I can find it for you

Hi,
That would be great.
Thanks in advance.

The Pro Circuit pull rods/dog bones that Team Green used on the KX500 were 132.5mm. I think Pro Circuit would list the same part number from 89-04, but I would check on that.
If anyone comes across these, or wants to make these, I would be interested. Haven't found a pair in years.

I'd bet emig racing would do a batch for us. If we had a few people commited
-
How much lower are we are talking overall at the seat?

It would raise the seat height
Stock Rods at 134mm the Pro Circuit rods are 132.5

Obviously JFAB is quite busy, but I have spoken with Larry about these a few years back.....If there is enough interest I will send him the Rods to "R & D" :-D

I assume these make the bike turn better right??

They make a HUGE difference to me on all of the KX's I have had them on. The front end Bites alot more.

Well that bites! haha.. Bites because you make me want to spend more money
So... is anyone SERIOUSLY interested in having emig make us a set?
I have a set of emigs links on my KTM... and they are IMPRESSIVE quality.. his machine work is best I have seen..
Id guess...they would be between 80-100 $$ a set...
Im interested... and if anyone else is.. and wants to put CASH IN HAND. Ill order a big batch of em... should get cost down the more we do...

Hmm. wonder if he can make them say "Motorrad Racing" instead of emig......

Count me in Motorrad. I'm willing to spend the $80-$100 just to test out what I've been told. Destry Abbott used to say that this mod made the KX500 much easier to handle in the rocks and other tight areas.

He also told me the first thing they did (besides links) was slap on 23.5mm offset triples
The 24mm I run off the 08 kx450 made a huge difference (but alot of that could be the modern suspension also)

Just curious , do the shorter dogbones give more travel?

New thread for people to post up if they want some... so not to clutter this thread.. and so I can keep track.. :|

I know that my bike and most of the later Ex Team Green KX500s set up for the desert were using a BRP bottom triple (haven't looked into the offset) and a stock upper. Some had BRP uppers as well, but I bet if you checked you are right about complementing the improvement with offset triples.

Oh d**n , I really want a set for my 89 kx250 (same as 500 )
I'll know for sure if I can commit to it in a few weeks.

Hi,
Thanks for that measurement 2-Stroke Tom. I will have a go at making some at work. Should be a nice little project!!

So do these dogbones raise or lower seat height? I've seen it posted both ways.

Shorter dog bones will raise the rear of your bike.
-
When is the deadline for payment? I would be in for a set.
-
I've always been curious about optional dogbones. What exactly is the modification ? Longer or shorter ? Are you altering rear suspension action or chassis stance ?
-
I believe the theory is the shorter dog bones raise the seat height and allow the rider's weight to shift forward (even though you should lower your forks in your triple clamps to complement the shorter dog bones!). The shortened length reduces the linkage ratio between the axle and the shock, meaning that as you would bounce over rocks and cause your rear wheel to rise and fall, the shock would be moving less as opposed to longer dog bones. This would reduce the bucking effect experienced over rough terrain.
