Wow,that's really a sad,and some-what infuriating story.I was just a little kid when I 1st heard of Nobby Clarke and Dick Mann....and I always loved hearing Dave Despains voice, because I knew when I heard it...there was some kind of awesome motorsports on tv,and he does such a great job as commentator.
I fully support Manns and Despains decision for pulling out.

There's always at least three sides to every story:

I read all this info at superbikeplanet earlier.
I didn't want to say anything about it but could you imagine if all this information was conveyed in such a manor as not to be trashing older folk?
To be honest I almost didn't read through the entire article because of the disrespect shown to older people.
I'm not in Depends yet but I do have to wear reading glasses unless the light is very good.
All my lifelong injuries haunt me every morning when I first get out of bed.
I can see that the next 20 years of riding will be very interesting.
Perhaps because of this I'm a bit more sympathetic to older ones.
But let me be clear on this..... The guy who wrote this article in superbikeplanet really needs a lesson on respecting his elders and I don't care what his age is or if he thought he was being funny.
Sorry, I wasn't raised that way.

This did'nt change my feelings any...actually it sickens me more. The HOF screwed up...I think they should honor Clarke the spot just for their stupidity and incompetence......just my $.02

I agree with you Sandblaster...on respecting elders,I too was raised to be respectul to my elders,no matter the circumstance.

I spent quite a bit of my youth living with my Grandparents, so I fully understand a healthy respect for your elders. The fact of the matter is the electoral process though, who actually has the vote's to enter the hall of fame. Maybe there should be multiple inductee's, as there are so many great contributors to the sport. Also Dick Dave & Kenny standing behind a brother is admirable , but if they did it without the full story it seems a little ignorant. All in all it casts a pall over the validity of the hall of fame which makes me feel for the numerous other worthy inductees who are left in a questionable boat due to managerial incompetence. What of the actual winner Randy Renfrow, this would have to steal the thunder from his family at what should be a high point of rememberance of their loved one. I don't doubt Nobby's being one of the great one's, hence he's on the ballot, but credit goes to the actual victor for winning the race, not 3rd place.

Hello.
Perhaps I didn't explain myself very well so I will try again.
I don't doubt the statements the writer made as being true and I make no arguments as to who or why anyone received their commendations.
My only concern was the twaddle he spoke of older ones.
I felt it was unnecessary and without merit and further detracted from the main intent of the article.
If the writer made those same derogatory remarks on national news what do you think would happen?
I think it goes without saying.
I have no trouble with any of the rest of his statements, only the ill way he decided to express himself regarding older ones.
Further I feel that he owes older ones a sincere apology.
In case your wondering I'm 49 and do not require bifocals or wear Depends....... Yet.....
Last I hope this does not come off as terse or in any way as being upset with any one on this site.
We have some of the best people on this site I have ever met in this capacity and I wish you all the best.

Sorry if I came across as an ass, wouldnt be the first time & surely wont be the last.
It just seemed there were more concerning issue's at hand than what was a poorly thought out description of how "the old boy's club" gets guys inducted. I didnt feel that his statement was meant as derogatory. It more reminded me of applying for a job, you have 3 guys who are equally qualified & one of them has a friend whos friends with the person in charge of hiring, there's the one whos getting the job. He just summarized it with a "The old boy's club".
He illustrates what he's thinking on that note here
"Every few years a very questionable person would be "voted" in and a select group of his friends or family were very happy, while fans, enthusiasts and even fellow committee members would wonder openly to me how the devil these people got in."
According to this it really does sound like his thoughts are valid , although poorly worded
"The ballot is then voted on by existing Hall of Fame members along with members of the AMHF and AMA boards of directors"
You cant tell me they aint gonna vote for their friends. It makes no mention of quantifiable talents being measured to determine who gets in , its just who do you guys like.
I just hope the real winners get there due & the process can be sorted satisfactorily to leave some validity to the HOF.
I'm an ass & say things without thought of political correctness so maybe I relate to the guy. I'm 35 so kinda in the middle I guess age wise. I didnt & dont mean to be offensive or confrontational, people just get so upset over words anymore, me included , it's so easy to find offence in whats said that sometimes the actual issue gets lost.
