Title: 2 stroke oil
Post by: maseman__46 on June 07, 2012, 11:35:49 AM
So this is a question that I cannot seem to find a solid answer to. Can 2 stroke mastertech outboard oil be used in my 1992 Kawasaki KX 125? I do not race, and I don't ride that often. If this has been covered somewhere, I apologize. The mastertech stuff is just much cheaper and easier to acquire.
Thank you, maseman__46

I would say yes. I run the outboard oil in my kx. It doesnt burn as clean as higher quality oil so you will probably get a lot of smoke out of the exhaust but I kinda like it! Haha

Oh,cool. Thanks. What ratio do you run? I run a 32:1 or is it 1:32?

Short answer..... I wouldnt

That 125 probably hits double the rpm that outboard oil was designed for.....

I would'nt either. It'll more than likely gum up your power valves and as Motorrad stated, your bike will run much higher RPM's than an outboard, and that oil won't have the protection needed for your top-end.My opinion...get a good oil designed for power valved two strokes....Bel Ray is my choice, but there's several good oils out there.

I have to admit that I have used outboard motor oil only under extreme emergency.
Since I only ran it for short periods of time I didn't notice any problems as it took 10 years for my first piston replacement.
I would not recommend it for every day use for all the reasons described above.
Yeah, it will cost you a bit more money to use a quality oil but what does a complete top end cost?

Probably would depend on hard you ran it how bad it would be? Few things smell as good as high performance two stroke oil puffing out of a pipe though!

Hey! I still have some Golden Spectro! Yummy! I have a nice selection of oils, both bought and given to me, from racing Karts years ago, plus bikes, outboards and model airplane engines. Should just dump them in the truck gas tank to get rid of them.
