I am planning an oil change tomorrow and am just wondering what is the best grade / type of oil to put in my KX5?
-
We are using Castrol GTX3 10-40 thats the best for the Clutch

UK,
I have used both 20-50 and gear oil and seem to have settled on Belray gear oil. One of the reasons is then I don't change the oil as often and my drain plug threads get a little less wear. There's already a helicoil in there so maybe is not an issue. Call me paranoid. Cam.

I use Maxima in everthing in my bike, but I still use Bel-Ray gear oil in the trans(habit I guess?),yeah the drain plug threads always scare me when doing a oil change, and the vibration of a 500 you dont want a drain plug to vibrate out.So just snug the plug and safety wire it!

Ditto - mikesmith and definatly SAFETY WIRE it!!

10-40, just like Team Green...

When you say snug the plug what do you mean????

UK_KX500,
I assume you are live in the UK? Then try Mobile 1, you'll find it at Halfords... Try 10-40 for cars or bikes. The SAE value indicates how "thick" the oil is under different temperature conditions. The lower value is for ?min? the other is for ?max? (means the oil is multigrade). Warmer weather -> need higher SAE value (not likely in the UK).
I have always used Mobile 1 and I never had any problems. The only thing to consider with tranny oil is to avoid oil with silicon or these miracle mixtures. That will ruin the function of the wet clutch.

Snug the plug means "tight, but not to tight",its easy to strip the threads in the case by over tightening the drain plug.Be careful it doesnt take much!

Cheers - I have gone for Rock Oil Semi Synthetic - will this be ok?????
