I would definitely sell my ye ol' kx250 for one like that! Looks so mean but yet still a kdx!

I just got the Dirt Bike with the article.....Service Honda wants almost $13,000 for one.......Their bikes are expensive because they buy every engine component piece by piece from the dealer. I'm sure you could find any KDX 200 or 220 on craigslist for under $1500, do a top end, get a 250f rolling chassis and get a good fab shop to do the same......You could have yourself a KDX200/220 AF for under $6000......Not knocking Service Honda or anything but some of us don't have that kinda green in the bank.....Sweet ride!!

Yep, way too rich for my wallet! Lets see, I traded (about $500-600) for a titled '06 KX250f roller, bought '94 KDX250 for $450, and getting the welding done for free by a buddy. Other than time, rails, and a few others parts I should have a nice KDX250af for under $2k. It won't be all new like the SH bike but it will do the same job and be a helluva lot cheaper!

Kind of a gyp they wont let you read for free online like super chevy & other stuff

Guess I gotta grab it, wanna read the kx500 story

I read the same article and I loved the idea so much I immediately went on ebay
I ended up with a 2009 kx250f chassis and a complete engine from a 1995 KDX 200... Grand total $950 (with lots still to buy) The engine looks like it's had relatively light use, but it will get a full rebuild (Top to bottom) just to ensure that it won't be a problem.
My intention is to have it ready for late fall and use it as a winter machine with my Trelleborgs mounted up and grip heaters burnin hot :-D
So has anyone else done this on the forum yet? I've been reading lots of good info on the 500 afc section
-
I have not done the 200 I did a 250 but alot of the info for that build came from the 500af guys. I bet the af 200 would be better than the SF 200

Its really cool that there are people out there (like me :-D) that are willing to build the bikes that the factories should still be building....Keep this up and we might have to introduce a KDX AF section here at KXRiders.

I think that would be pretty cool
I have the frame already, a buddy who has done a KX5 conversion before, a buddy who is a CNC Machinist and another buddy who is a pro tig welder lined up, but the motor won't get here until next week at the earliest (I'm in Calgary)... I'm getting so anxious.... I can't wait to get started. I know it won't go fast, but it'll surely be fun :-D

Please keep us posted on your progress. You should also post up over at KDXrider.net. There is a whole subsection just for hybrid builds like these.

Thanks for the heads up SS109. I'll post up some pictures once I get started.
