I just bought a new 04 Kx500 yesterday and was wondering about ride time on the stock tank. I plan on mostly riding in the sand. My yz250 sucked gas like crazy, but it also had a smaller tank. I was also wondering about replacing the rear fender. I've seen some people recomend 93 fenders and some 95-00. Any suggestions? Thanks for any relpys.

The tank on a properly jetted 500 should be good for 48 or so miles, NOW keep in mind you're running fatter and with more throttle in the sand (Dunes mostly) so you'll probably get a realistic 35 - 38 a tank. Not great mileage but a bundle of fun ;)
The fender is a '93 KX250 fender from UFO

Thanks for the info. I have a few more question. What tranny oil are you guys running? The manual says 10-40, but I have alway used 70-90 gear oil, in both my yz and my wife's banshee. Also do you know of any web sites were I can order the 93 fender. All the sites I've been to don't have it. Any tips on breaking in the bike. Thanks.

I use Maxima MTL 85 and call Jeff @ Moneybutt Parts for the 93 fender, it's not listed on his site but he got me my last one. They're about $20 or so US

The '03 or'04 250 front fender looks sweet too. You just have to trim the front # plate a little bit.

I have a used IMS tank that I am going to ebay soon if you are interested in some some extra gas time.

Way to go on the '04. I'm not sure if this is your first k5 but you might want to pay some attention to the fork springs. Most are way too soft. Also, the jetting in the chart is a great start, almost bang on for everyone. Enjoy. Cam.

Yeah this is my first k5 as well as my first Kawasaki. It was kind of an impulse buy. I did not even know any companies still made big bore 2 strokes. I had to call 7 dealers to find one that still had a k5. I think I got a good price. 4300 before tax. Thanks for all the replies

Tranny oil - 10-40. Works for Team Green, works for me.
