I stop by once in a while when I go to drive down to San Diego and I just stand in that parking lot overlooking whats left of the raceway. I get emotional when I see what I see. Back in the year I rode both the MX track and I used to drag race at the strip........R.I.P Carlsbad.

There is a motorcycle dealer in north county that had a candle light vigil every year on a little bit of the GP track that is still there. Its not much to look at but is an original path of the track.
I grew up within hearing distance of the drag cars and can remember sitting on my porch in the evenings and hearing them thunder off in the distance.
I rode there quite a bit in the late 90's and early 00's. I did a few of the Christmas Gran Prix (obviously the 500 class) and thoroughly enjoyed the 40 minute moto that included using the whole drag strip.
I think it was in 99 that Marty Motes (RIP) was there and even on a older classic bike he still kicked all our butts.
Also remember Pastrana in his prime doing a 1/2 mile wheelie while weaving in and out of all the cones every 100' or so down the strip. Was really late in the day and myself and a friend were the only ones to see it except for one guy with a camera which I later saw in the credits to a movie.
Ok, I am going to go cry in a corner now.... Memories
