Title: KX 250 Rebuild is DONE....!
Post by: golash on February 18, 2012, 10:30:36 AM
Hi all

Thanks to all in the forum that answered my many questions. The reconstruction is done after 3 1/2 months. I basically
covered ever inch of this motorcycle. From the frame painting, washing the radiators and re-painting to a new piston and
ring install. It ended up being a bigger project then I thought. My rear wheel was a piece of junk. But I managed to find
a 1996 wheel on ebay that was in near perfect condition. And for a price of 135 dollars it made my day.

very nice pro job , you could do with sticking a sharks fin infront of the sproket saves anything going through the casing and mullering the arm for the clutch ,i personally wouldnt ride without it ,chain looks a bit tight though? realy nice restoration

Hi
Thanks for the kind words. I`m with you on sticking a sharks fin infront of the sprocket. As usual nothing is easy.
One of the bolts broke off flush with the casing. I drilled it some and need to try and pick out the rest of the bolt.
Once out that will give me an excuse to use my Bridgeport milling machine and the rotary table to make a case
protector.

might be easyier to drill and just helicoil ,chances are the threads mullered anyway!

+1 for job well done!

I have fond memories of the '89 KX250. I didn't own one, but I was out riding and there was a guy parked next to me with a brand-new '89 KX250. He was breaking it in and had hurt himself, so he let me ride his new steed. Smooth motor with equally-smooth suspension. Great bike.

Hi All
Thanks to everyone for the kind words. After 20 plus years of being away from motorcycles its great to be back.
I lived for motorcycles as a kid. It seems nothing has changed. I get on the 23 year old 2 stroke and I feel 18 again.

Thanks for the help and support, Barry
