hello kxriders
« on: September 05, 2011, 12:23:50 PM »
Just wanted to introduce myself to the group. My name is Ben and I just bought my first 500. Ive been riding motorcycles now for 27 years. I do some cross country racing (hare scrambles) and a hell of a lot of trail riding. My local park carnegie svra is about 20 min from me and I do most of my riding there. For those of you that have not been its gnarly rocky steep and not for beginners. I bought the kx5 for this reason, these steep hills are the perfect spot to use the torque of a 500. Ive been riding yz 250 smokers for the last 10 years which is perfect for my seirra nevada forest rides but i was looking for more ooomph in the hills.
This site was such a great find for me to set up my bike. I took all the info and compiled it together to make what I wanted out of this bike.  There are so many riders on here with great info and knowledge about how to setup this bike for just about anything. Enough beating around the bush already heres what Ive been workin on.
  1993 kx5
stock pipe, vforce 2, fmf turbine core, 18" rear wheel, and new pro taper twin walls with risers.
so far the stock pipe and vforce is a world of a difference from the fmf gold series and stock reeds it came with. Thanks to  all who put all the great advice on here cause my bike is amazing with not much done to it exept fine tuning.

slightly more firm than stock seat but it doesnt look like the foam has been broke in yet so i feel it will get softer with use. Its all leather so not to grippy.

Hey there Ben welcome to the Site.
Glad you found what you needed to set up your bike. Which looks great I might add!
You are right, these bike can be set up to do just about anykind of riding you like without a whole lot of fuss.
Please let the gang know if there's anything you might have questions on and don't be afraid to jump in anywhere you can add something.
After riding all those years you certainly have a few tips and tricks you might like to share.
Please don't feel you may say something that might be interpreted as silly, simple or newb...
That's been my forte' for years...
