« on: August 27, 2011, 03:54:50 PM »
Hello all you big bore junkies :-D i just baught a 89 K5 i decided one big bore is not enough
(i have a zilla to)so i added another to my collection you got to love the big bore i know i do.
But it needs some tlc to get her in good shape and did i mention i only paid 4 nice new crisp Benjamens for it and it runs could not go wrong.
So i joined this forum hopin its like the Zuki forum i am apart of that will take care of its big bore brothers. I think this place will i get that good vibe from this forum. So im hopin to get help from you guys in the form of knowledge because this is my starter bike fore the dirtbike world i needed somthin big considering im 6foot7 and weigh 330lbs i figured this would be the bike to do it. And like also the Zuki forum i am on their is a number of compitent builders on their that dont charge an arm and a leg to build a motor. Are their any members on here like that?? i hope i would have to hate a zuki guy build my Kawi motor.
Are these motors reliable is their mods that will make them more reliable? I am a big guy and demand alot of beating from my motors . If my Zilla could talk it would tell that i love it but beat it like a dirty rugg when i ride.
So please let me know everything you know i am newbie to the dirtbike world

                      Thank you
                            Chris

Hey Chris,
 Welcome to the site.
There is enough info on the 5oo here a guy with some gumption could write a book!
The bike in stock form has plenty of power to move around a guy your size alright.
The problem usually is setting up the bike to fit Xtra large riders.
Larger higher bar bends, bar risers and offsets, longer clutch cable and brake line.  Larger footpegs with offset and I imagine a longer shifter would be a plus.

Re springing the bike for your weight and riding style will help.
Last but not least is what you will need for Horse Power.   Just like any other bike, the hotter you build it, the narrower the powerband tends to be and the reliability  factor starts to dwindle.

With around 60 pony's on a fresh engine, there is enough power even for a guy your size to have fun.
If you use good parts, and quality workmanship the engine will give you years of service.
Maintenance is key to good service life, just like most anything I suppose.
Get your self a Clymer or Kawasaki service manual so you can see what all is going on with the bike.
Here are a few examples of both:

OK i never did formally intraduce myself. My name is Chris i am from Somerset,PA but live in Williamsport were i go to school. Im 30 years old served 7 years in the Army 3 tours of duty god do i miss it. i just bought what was supposed to be an 89 k5 but turned out to be 86 frame with a 85 motor oh well. It needs it needs a restore just dont know if i can afford right now but stand by i will get to it here it is in pre-restore trim. And also the other big bore in my family. She is my baby i would kill for my baby i owned her for 11 years and will stay for another 11 years i hope i get that way about my k5. I bought the zilla in 4 boxes and 1 rubbermaid container and the frame that i welded and reinforced its an 89. Ok enough with the braggin i know this is a kx sight but im just a 2srtoke lover i dont hold any grudges on 2 stroke except for one.
