top speed
littlewing78:
One of my buddies has a speedometer on his bike so of course we have to see how fast we can go. My 99 KX 500 is stock with the exception of the 49 tooth rear sprocket. We took off and I pulled away from them for a long ways. I topped out and he caught up to me. 87 MPH was the best I could do. Does that sound about like what I should be getting?
alward25:
yup, with a 49t. You might be a little lean in the top and it won't open up all the way.

Yup, that's about right. I pulled 85 mph with my K500 on an ideal logging road via GPS.

I hit 88 on my 88 K5 with a ICO odo. Cant remember the gearing though.
