Hi people,

Glad i found your site it looks like i may need some expert help.

I just bought a 1999 KX500 thats a little tired, im going to rebuild it so as expected im on the hunt for some parts.

First off i need to find a new kick start as im struggling to find one and I want to get it running before i break it down, can I use one from another model?

There was a member that was talking of producing an improved kickstart lever, but I don't think it ever actually happened.

The early piece was pretty crappy and broke regularly. If you order a new OEM lever from Kawi it will be much beefier. I wasn't sure which model year the changeover happened, so I just ordered it for a "2004 kx500". I know my 1998 had the earlier lever.

Welcome!
Congrats with "new" bike, tired or not this site will make you want to wrench on it :-D
The kick lever only fits the 500 (same for at least 88-04) and like snoopjonnyjon said if you order a new one you will get the uppgraded one. A lot of online stores like bikebandit and babbitsonline should have them.

For parts crossover http://www.ronayers.com/fiche is pretty good. http://oem-cycle.com/KAWASAKIKX500BIKEID.aspx wich i believe is sandblasters creation, even shows interchangability beyond the part numbers (how great it is that some people take the trouble to make something like that  :-))..

Great info thank you!

I found a kick start that fits an 1984 kx500, would this be the same?

This is the bike, it has a missing foot peg and a broke front brake lever, oil leak etc etc so it need plenty of work!  :-D
