'86 kickstart woes....Swap??

Can any of you K5 gearheads tell me if I can swap the entire kickstart mechanism from an '89 or newer into a set of '86 cases without issues?? I do know the kick pedal bosses are different so i'll have to swap that over too. Just wondered if the newer complete mechanism units are a dirrect swap over.

i have old and new kx500s and that all looks the same to me. i have not tried but it appears it would work.
