Me like KX500
« on: February 01, 2011, 12:27:59 PM »
Hello my name is Marc Alward. I live in Canada and have a family with 2 kids, girl and a boy and I am a proud owner of a KX500, (last kid stickered it up like gross) I'm working on removing them. I also replaced all plastics and am going to do the KX250 rear fender mod, also reed spacer with v-force 3 reeds, gnarly pipe with a FMF turbine silencer, and a flywheel weight. Hoping to replace the clutch and with the proper oil hopefully fix the kickstarter slip that is there, I would not want to replace parts in the trans.

Hi Marc.
Welcome to KX Riders.
There are tons of good guys on here with a wealth of information.
I know you will enjoy it.
If your kick starter is slipping, it may be something as simple as a weak spring.
However, it may be the gears on the kick shaft are slipping.
Sounds bad but it really isn't.
You don't have to split the cases to get to it.
All you need to do is remove the clutch cover and it becomes obvious  :-D
If you don't have a good service manual you might want to invest in one.
Enjoy!

Thank you for the insight however I just received my parts to start working on it minus the plastics. I will have photos as soon as I can figure it out but I might have to be at my compy for that, might not work so well on a iPhone. I live in Edmonton and like to travel 10 hours to bike with my brother in law with his KTM 450 in the mountains
