I fear their bearings are now made in china..... any idea? as I know their rods are...

I am afraid it is hard to find much anymore that is not made in China. Not sure of wiesco bearing source.

Impressive that the cage underwent such severe deformation without coming apart.
I have seen very few wrist pin bearing failures ... but we always tried to run OEM at the shop.
Truthfully, aside from some of the exterior cosumables (sprockets, chain, bars, etc.) it is hard to beat OEM - IMHO.
