We Just spent 4 nights at the Killpecker Dunes in Wyoming. While theses dunes are somewhat hard to find, they are spectacular! The roads are much improved from 2 years ago and there are some restricted areas which are not marked. We were lucky there were some local riders to let us know where not to ride. I will post more picture later, however here are a couple, one of the dunes and the other of a small heard of wild horses we came upon....................

alan, are there any dunes there that compare to the height of st. anthony? these dunes are ranked as the second largest active sand dune field in the world. what is your opinion, would you say that they are indeed huge in area?

Maddog, I would have to say that Killpecker has much steeper climbs, like China Wall at Glamis, but nothing to compare with St Anthony for height. Killpecker is even larger than the maps shown on Duneguide.com. The locals tell me that you can ride from dune to trail for 50 to sixty miles. Much like St. Anthony, Killpecker has lots of rocks where if you just go blindly jumping over dunes you could find yourself landing a pile of rocks.
I have riden 12 different dune fields and I would have to rate.
# 1 Glamis
# 2 St Anthony
# 3 Killpecker
# 4 Little Sahara (Utah)

Although even the smallest of them I would go back and ride again!

thanks for the report alan, maybe later in the year towards fall i can get down there and ride. sounds like the feds or the state do a real poor job if signing the area for off limits areas, i guess its kind of a ride wherever you want type of deal, not that i would try to break the law but if they arent telling people where not to ride then what else do they expect? sounds like a cool area to try. thanks again alan.
