Im changing the forks on my 88 500 over to 98 250 usd`s,ive already got the matching yokes but need to change the stem over to my 500,im assuming the stem can be pressed out but can anybody tell me which way to press it from the bottom of the lower yoke upwards or press on the top of the stem down?

                                     any help always appreciated

RoostDaddy:
Its been so long but I think my stem was pressed from the bottom up.  I know on my drag race front-end, I had to bore out the clamps for my stem to fit.  Not sure the size difference between the 500/250.

well thats what i was thinking.pressed up but after a bit of research on the net it suggests the stem is pressed down, well this seems to be the case for gixers r1`s anyway.the 250 stem is bigger alas the swap but looks the same diameter where it goes into the bottom clamp,i`ll be able to see if i can get it pressed out.

don46:
to remove the stem from your existing triple clamp, you press it down, through the bearing and bottom clamp. There is a wire circlip on the stem, when you press it into the clamp it prevents the stem from moving up.

thanks for the replys,i took it inot work today and tried to press it out but it never moved not enough poundage,so i will have to take it to a engineering company and see if they can budge it using a hydraulic press.
