Shock Troubles......Help!!

(1/3) > >>

HammeredFlat4:
Well since I picked up my new K5 I have been going through it and using loctite on all the bolts and greasing all the bearings.  As I was unbolting the lower shock mount to grease the bearings I noticed what looked like a small crack so I removed the shock completely and this is what I found... :-o

Do you guys think I can have this welded up or should I start looking for a new shock?

alward25:
Get a new shock. If it was bottomed out enough to break it like that, chances are the guts are jacked too.

ZETTNORCAL:
I have a nice shock off of a 96 kx500 I'll sell you for $50 plus shipping :-D :-D

If he doesnt take that shock I will! Mine is f***ed

maddoggy:
that crack is way too close to the clicker. looks like the crack started on the inside @ the fillet radius. looks like the factory did not clean up the casting seem and created what is known in the metalurgical world as a stress raiser. if it were mine, i would not feel comfortable with repairing that crack. it's not worth risking a new break when jumping and you really need the suspension to do its job. find a good used one, rebuild/ revalve if necessary install it and adjust as needed. then go ride!!! the shock that zettnorcal offered you sounds like a good deal. i'd go for it. install and ride it once, it might be set up ok when you get it. do not try to weld that!!!
