K5 @ ST. ANTHONY DUNES

« Reply #15 on: June 17, 2010, 02:52:25 AM »

my other date suggestion would be june 17,18 and 19th 2011. if anyone else has a prefered date just chime in.

i have decided that june 17,18, 19 2011 is the only time i can go to st. anthony. the earlier date in may conflicts with my paddlefishing plans with my son. i could not take him this past may due to me breaking my wrist and he was mega dissapointed, made me feel like an idiot for ruining his fishing trip.  i won't dissapoint him next year by missing the paddlefish season. so again, the trip will be june 17,18 and 19th 2011. if that won't work for everyone else, i will just have to miss the trip. sorry if i made it harder for you guys.

I sure hope I can swing this. This broken leg is a big rock in my pond that already had to many ripples. I just hope it didn't scare the fish off.

i think that alot of the snow gets drifted over with sand. i know for a fact that egin lake is purely filled with burried snow runoff. as the weather gets hotter the lake starts to dry up.

ya, i hear you bdi. i know that money will be tight for everyone, myself included. that's why i am urging everyone that is thinking of attending this ride to get hooked up with other riders and do the carpool or "truckpool" thing to try to lessen the cost of the trip. there are campgrounds at the dunes that could be used for tent camping that would lower the cost compared to motels.

I will be attending and I would have room for one more bike and one other person.  Driving up from Central Ca just north of LA.

Some questions are starting to arise about what to expect at St Anthony. The dunes are surrounded by private land so unlike some dunes it is probably best to arrange for a campsite with the ammenities you personaly need. This is a nice privately owned RV campground, BLM has a nice one too but it runs a little more and doesnt include showers. I'm promoting this for anyone that would like to try to stay closer together, it would be a shame not to get to ride, hangout, talk KX, and get to know each other better. So if everyone going would like to PM me and let me know if you are going to tent camp, RV, trailer, or hotel. I'm trying to get an idea of how much to reserve that will keep us in the same area. Lets not wait too long to line up some sites, or we might not have many options. Here is a website of the place:

                                                                https://www.idahodunesrv.com/index.php

Also Off Road Stickers required. Idaho will accept your off road sticker from your state or country if you are current with registration. 8 feet above ground whips with red or orange flag.

I will be driving the bus if everything works out.  Other wise I will drive my 1/2 ton truck with bikes on a trailer. I think it would be great to have an off site place to setup, camp, tent.....  But still have dune access from the camp site.
6 months sounds like a long time, but 6 months ago I was sweating so bad it looked like I just got out of the shower with my motocross gear on.  6 months ago I was wishing it was fall,  well here it is.

ID KX500 has offered to find a site, a private site, with dune access.
He will need a head count to do this.
If your 100% you will attend please speak up.
If your on the fence, would like to attend but don't know yet let us know.
I would think we need a full commitment, a yes or no by February 1st.
We might need it sooner for ID KX500 to select the best reservation.

I think Feb. 1st should be good, I'm sure the spaces go fast once riding starts.

as it stands now, barring some unforseen event, i will be attending. probably me and my 10 yr. old son and maybe a couple friends, not 100% sure on the friends though. we will most likely be bringing our 27ft. travel trailer as well. the k5 and a xr100r and maybe a four wheeler for putzing around. thats the plan for now.

If you are traveling a long way, another activity while you are in the area is Yellowstone Park. West Yellowstone is about 70 miles away or Jackson WY about 80 miles. It is a great loop to go through both. So dual sport bikes, road bikes, or just your vehicle is a good added activity.

Also I am planning a high altitude moutain trail ride anytime it works while you visit.

Yellowstone looks like it would be great fun on a street bike. I guess the trick would be to keep moving at al times. LOl http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OssNau9_NxI
