« on: April 23, 2010, 01:40:35 PM »

Date has been set Fri, Sat, Sun,  June  17,18, 19, 2011.
Start planning now to attend.

I've been talking to maddoggy and he is suggesting a KX500/kxriders.com meet at St. Anthony Dunes sometime in the spring of 2011.
Since the world is suppose to end 12- 21- 2012, I thought I would like to ride some REAL sand dunes before then.
Oklahoma has a nice dune area but on a good day they are only 68 feet tall.  They say it's the 8th best dune area in the nation.
I think the St. Anthony dunes are 2nd or 3rd on the list.  With Glamas being number 1.
Alan may be able to tell us, he's traveled to many dune riding areas, and could give us a personal K5 point of view.

This ride would be about a year from now.  That would give ample time to get your finances and bikes in order.
Lots of time for suggestions and comments.
Go on youtube and look up St. Anthony dunes and you will see why I want to go.

For me,  arriving on a Thursday and getting settled in.  Ride Friday, Saturday, Sunday and leave out Monday morning.
Yes it's a long way for some,  better part of a 2 day drive for me one way.

Here are some answers to a few questions I asked maddoggy.  If I missed a question post yours.
1. No sound check
2 State issued OFF ROAD VEHICLE (ORV) sticker required for the state where you
live, or buy an Idaho sticker
3.There are camp grounds at the dunes.
4. 5000 ft elevation
5. 3 wheelers welcome. rules say no licensed vehicles on the dunes(trucks or jeeps etc..)

St. Anthony is only 8-10 miles from Rexburg which is a nice sized town with plenty of amenities. A large motorsports dealer in Rexburg as well for anyone needing parts. Check out  www.duneguide.com and go to "dunes" then "Idaho" then "St. Anthony" for all the dune and camping info you will need to check on.

Sheridan, WY. to Rexburg, ID. 377 miles - 7 hours 11 min according to google. plus i get the added bonus of my route going through Yellowstone National Park.  grin Danger, maybe we should look into reserving the whole campground at Egin Lake(the one closest to the BIG dunes) so we would all be together. i am assuming we will have a full house. i know it's still very early in the trip planning but i really think the turnout will be good. maybe some of you guys that would have to travel a mega distance can get together with other guys and do a carpool sort of deal to lower the cost and increase the chances of showing up for the ride. i'm super-stoked about this ride!

YES!!!

If you are making the drive why not stay a week?

St Anthonys has to be better than glamas,  I have more fun at the OR dunes.   I heard St Anthonys has taller dunes then any thing on the Continent, although i have heard there are some awsome dunes in canada

Spring is the busy time of year here at work.  Because it's planned 1 year in advance the boss has ok'ed 1 week off.  With the weekends that's 9 days.  4 days of that will be driving.  On the way back I want to spend a day in Colorado riding with the employees of the shop where I bought my first KX500.  That's 5 days, 3 days at the dunes with 1 day for driving back through Wyoming.

I would like to make clear.  I won't make a commitment until January 2011.  Our economy has started to slow a little. I will start budgeting now but you know how life can get in the way of cool plans.  I'm upbeat about this, I've wanted to ride big dunes.  The first time I rode the dunes here in OK. was back in 2001.  My friend let me ride his 400EX quad.  That night at camp I was hooked.  His storys about Glamis sounded like a blast.
I bought my first quad 2 weeks later.

So lets get together and pick Month and a weekend date.
ID KX500 and  maddoggy your in the area what do you guys think?  I would hate to drive all that way and get rained out.  I would ride in the rain but would not be as fun.

If you set aside 3 days it is highly unlikely that you won't at least have some sunny,,,oh and the local Native-American tribe does an annual Sundance every spring. cool I'll also order a wind dance to smooth out the ruts prior to your arival. grin And maybe I will try to get a load of wood for some bon-fires warm enough to sacrifice virgins.

we need to start getting an idea of the amount of riders who will be trying to make the trip to this official kxriders.com dune event. please post up and let us know if you are planning to attend and an aprox. number of riders. also do you plan to camp or motel?

we also need input on a specific date in 2011. my suggestion would be to start friday, may 20th 2011. please help us get the plans rolling.

NOTE: i will not plan this event for memorial day weekend, far too many people riding then which makes it dangerous.

If 2011 is like 2010 yes maddoggy. It has been a cold one this year so far. June is a safer bet.

Just spent the last 3 days at Saint Anthony! You forget just what monster dunes there are here. The weather has gone bad so we are going to head down to Little Sahara dunes in Utah.

A couple of pic's for you all............

Some guys playing at Middle Bowl with Egin Lake in the back ground.

And a shot from the top of Dead Horse Bowl, what a monster!
