1987 KX500 Power Valves

Hello all...I lurk quite a bit for info and performed a search and could not find what I needed, so posting a topic.  I currently rebuilding a 1987 KX500 motor and just found out the power valve gears are chewed up beyond repair.  Can anyone tell me if a 1986 set of power valves will work in an 1987 motor?  The part numbers are different on the parts diagrams.
