I have a magellan triton with a bar mount. I bought maps for all the local places I want to check out. I got it for my jeep originally. The bike mount was an after thought. Haven't used the mount though, it works fine in my pocket.

I guess it depends on where you ride.  My GPS sits in a chest pouch on my body armor - for consultation.  The only time I needed to see it while riding was following some unkown logging roads.  Cam.
