 Hey Rasta Ken,
Grew up in Ohio right next door, moved out to CaliFornie.
There is a member here starting up a new Yamaha / KX site,
    http://dirthammers.webs.com/
It's still in the early stages of development but might be worth getting in on the ground floor.

I can sympathize on the KX project bike. 90% of the bikes I've had over the years were brought home in Boxes  :|.
I can recommend laying out a plan and sticking to it the first couple "Resto" Bikes.
As Hard as it may be, get the old girl up and running... near as stock as reasonable.

As an example:   if it's going to be more cost effective to get a new carb as apposed to re-building the one on the bike, save up and get the replacement.
You can buy slides, jets, and needles. and still have a worn carb body....
   well,
It  cost me more trying to remedy the old one, and then having to buy a replacement  anyway...

And the dreaded..."While I'm at it..I might as well....(fill in the blank)   "....
I think after snooping around a bit you'll see what I'm gettin' at.
We used to say "How Fast Can You Afford To Go?"
And that pretty much still holds true today.  O.K...Enough Preachin'!
