hey my name is john i am 19 and going to college. my bike is a 1985 kx500 i paid 300 bucks for. it is my project  and i was working on it last night i pulled the plastics off to check my spark i seem to be getting good spark but i think i need new reeds i cleaned the carb adjusted the floats still trying to tune the carb. A few of my reeds are not sealing the best a little worn i pulled my stator cover and my stator looks really rusty. so i need to pull it off and clean the points now i am a noob and i need a puller correct? she wont start and the last time i got her started was by pulling her with a truck. she didnt run well at all shut off on me and bogged like hell. it has a pro circuit header pipe. my jetting is a 460 main but i dont know the pilot there is no numbers on it. my carb is pretty clean considering the age. she wont start at all. sorry guys i have so many questions but i want the beast to run and you guys know everything. i have plenty of compression when i rode her the first time she screamed man i couldn't get out of 4th gear too fast. but now i cant get her to start. oh do you guys no of any places i can get a cheap gas tank? thank you

Welcome jdb1989, pretty old school for me to know much about your 500. I can tell you, reeds are very important to performance and its easy to imagine running it hard and then breaking corners off of them. The fly wheel does look rusty, but if you are getting spark, you might wait on that for now. Clean air filter, fresh gas, clear silencer and exhaust, new plug ( B8ES NGK ), stuff like that. They can be finicky reviving them. Stuff settling in the tank, or carb, may clog up the jets or fuel line. Also have seen mud daubber nests and mice nest in the silencer cause funky problems with a resto.
First I would find a manual for that year of 500, they cover 99% of problems and repairs. Mostly, you have to diagnose which thing to buy first, but rest assured that 300 bucks is just getting your foot in the door :-D.

I never have had to pull my bike. If it won't kick start with a new plug, I know its not going to run well. Maybe, that could get necessary with high compression head or something, but its no good when you have to resort to that. Usually that will cause more expensive things to happen. Hopefully, you will find it as a simple problem, but start with the basics getting a solid baseline to start from.

I would check the compression.  Some of the symptoms that you explain are those caused by low compression or an air leak.  You might want to pressure check the engine and make sure your crank seals are not leaking down.  Leaking crank seals can cause hard starting and lack of idling ability and very poor throttle response.  Other than that I do say that 300 dollars is just getting your foot in the door as mentioned earlier. You can look spending that many times over depending on what is wrong.
