with standard tank etc dont think it can get much  easier the pushing a button that reset itself at your left knee
my view is with cable/ lever it is just more thing to go wrong  or even people holding lever while starting engine

Do you really want to be feeling around for a decompression button at your left knee if you stall on a nasty hill climb, etc.
q If you think it worth the hassle and cost of cable, lever and some kind of mechanism to push the button go for it
all i am saying is due to the position of this valve it cant get much easier

If I'm on a nasty hill, and have stalled it, who cares, I'm going to point it down, in second gear I'll bump start it. now if your talking about a hill that you MAY be able to continue on after you get it started that would be a different story, although even then I would ask how you did it before the compression release. The compression release is a great idea, primarily when the bike is cold, after that usually one good kick and its running.

I'm thinking more of a long gnarly single track hill climb with rocks and roots, not a short open blast of a climb. Something where you can't easily turn around and is to awkward to get a good kick on the 500.

YOU'RE ON A KX500!!! If you stalled it going up any hill then I don't know what to tell ya............Stalling on a hill while riding a 500 two stroke is like winning the lottery........is it possible? sure.........is it likely? not really grin

Hey Mr. "State of the art 450 4-Stroke"!!  I don't ride a KX500 for its handling capabilities!  I ride it for the same reason I would drive a 70 Chevelle SS, it may not handle the best but the nostalgia factor and brute HP sure make riding it lots of fun!

Just got my head in the mail......all I can say is............WOW!!!!  The work is excellent.  It looks as though it came from the factory with the mod done.  I can't wait to get my motor together so I can try it out.  Thanks for everything Larry.

Not quite that fast, but I try to do all the heads that arrive during the week on the weekend and ship back on Monday.

I like the idea of having the entire assembly on the head rather than taking up room on the handlebars. I need the handlebar space for kill switch, Baja Designs headlight switch assembly, mirror and brushbashers. I do wonder if the location of the release button would work if you had a 4 Gal. Clark tank installed.

Makes starting a 500 PAINLESS!

 KX  CR  YAM  KTM

Just push the blue button to set the release. The valve automaticlly closes when the engine fires.what a awesome job, must get my kx500 done

Cost to modify your cylinder head is $125 plus $7 return shipping.
This includes the decompression valve, lapping the headgasket surface and abrasive blasting.
