New geek... *pics of my new [to me] KX 500 inside*
« on: August 19, 2009, 12:02:40 PM »
Hey all..

I am Steve, I live in Leamington, ON, Canada.  I have an 84 CR 500, and an 84 RM 125 that is for sale.   IN the past two years I have restored a bunch of vintage MX bikes... I am also into drag racing small displacement turbo cars and have built a lot of 2.3L Ford Turbos and Buick GN/TTypes and the odd 5.0.  I do a LOT of cylinder head porting, and have done everything from Patriot Performance LS2 heads, Skyline GTR RB26TT head, GN, 2.3 turbo, and some others.  I have an 84 SVO Mustang that runs 11.80s w/ the 2.3T and about $1500 or so in mods.. these cars have a LOT of out of the box potential, you can see it here.

HI guys and gals.  Well, I have another bike in my stable.. Long story short I am on our local Mustang club message forum he was advert'ing it for sale there.

His dad and him beefed because there was too much of his sons stuff in the garage and said to get the bike gone asap... he went from 1500 a few weeks back.. originally, to 1200.. to 1000.. over time.. then after the fight with dad $800 takes it, and I notice I have PM on there.  He knows I am into resto'ing bikes and says "600 come get it, i'd like to see you get this and do your thing to it..".

I went up, and not having a dime to my name right now, can't afford it but wanted to look.  I looked it over, found stuff, but overall its' a solid bike for sure.   We couldn't get it to start.. it has 1.5 year old gas, an improper air box lid/air cleaner, etc...  It has tons of compression, good spark, sounds there maybe some piston cleanrance between the cyl wall when you roll it over real slow.. but he says it runs like a champ, was rebuilt two seasons ago, loses no water, and water doesn't get into the oil.  I offered him $550 told him I wished i'd had the cash on me, but that I was broke until a week or two from now.  He told me "$550... yeah fine.. and you can take it tonight if you want, you have done lots of work for guys on the RTP club porting heads and stuff.. I trust you based on what I have heard about you [felt good to hear].

Soooo... tomorrow, I clean a bunch of stuff out, and get it running and ride it.  LMK what U think for $550..

Thanks a lot guys, and thank for the nice words on the restos, I love resto'ing bikes that were going to be tossed to the trash... norare just in rough shape..  I don't really know why.  I hate seeing something I grew up on.. or with, die..  I guess.  I'm stuck in the 80s!!! lol.

I like that cr, looks like you got some time into that. You don't see many of those around, especially in condition like that.
