wont kickstart will pop start???

(1/1)

500freak:
i got my new engine started but, it will only pop start. when you pop it, it starts with in a foot of letting the clutch out.
even when it hot, you kick all you get is pops out the exhaust. i took the carb off the 5k i run every day so that has to be ok. (that bike starts one or two kicks every time). timing is alittle advanced. the compression is high so could it be it needs VP?? when its running it perfect wheeling in every gear. idles fine quick crisp revs, im lost.

BDI:
I would try a cdi from a known running bike. Just fir s**ts and giggles

kaw rider:
I would check your flywheel keyway.

I was thinking the same thing but i figured if the guy has been playing with the timing that he would have had to pull the flywheel to do it. I would assume that he would have noticed that the key was sheered. the key is typicaly what causes this problem.

If it's the 87 in his sig....you can adjust the timing without pulling the flywheel. 87's have the small flywheel on them.
