--- Quote from: wreck-n-roll rik on May 24, 2009, 11:05:56 AM ---Pulled the carb adn cleaned it and look in at the reed but did not pull them. I spent the morning tinkering and re-ohming everything. Have the B/Y to B/W intermitten ohm reading to hold it is slightly out of rang at 270 adn the manual cut off is 230. Now for the fun stuff - I wanted to pull the the fly wheel but the prevous owner/s must have tried - the thread are all stripped out, can't even thread in the fly wheel puller in. Now how do I get it off? I can pick up a new stator and coil tomorrow. Coil tested good but I plan to just replace it.

You still didn't answer one of our basic questions is the plugs wet when you pull them out? You seem to be digging deep into presumed machanical issues, when all you might have is a oil saturated, flooded crankcase.... If you have fuel, spark, and compression you should at least hear a "fart" or something... (as long as the crankcase isn't flooded)

The plug was wetish but not exsessive. I blow the cylinder out with a match and went fump. When I kick it it sound flat only twice has it sounded like it tried to actually fire and died. The new plug/s look fine, not even brown tint after kicking it over several time. Assuming that the crank was flood how would you suggest I clean it out? In respect to the 270 B/Y to B/W and the upper cut off being 230 what do you think of that? Still have a fly wheel I can not pull at this time and would like to be able to take it off if needed. The crank seals are 2 years since lower end done (according to prevous owner).

Reeds are in great shape took a look at them. Son and I just went out in the dark to take a look at the spark and there was none. Intereasting he was advided to Spray WD40 around and throw the Flywheel by a neighbor while I was 4 wheeling this afternoon. Would this cause my to lose spark? I plan to pick up some contact cleaner in the a.m.
DoldGuy:
Pull the spark plug & put piston at BDC. Remove fuel line from carb and drain the bowl. Let the bike sit over night at least 12 hours, this will give the crankcase a chance to evaporate the fuel in there. After that time, do NOT hook up the fuel line yet, take a paper towel & with your finger plug the spark plug hole & kick it over 4-5 times (make sure the plug cap is in a safe place not to ignite any fuel vapors) then inspect the towel, it should be dry. If it has fuel on it the bottom end still needs to be dried out, if is dry then bring the piston to TDC & pour in some pre mixed gas (about a tablespoon full) in the plug hole, quickly install the plug & cap, kick like you mean it & hopefully it starts & runs for a moment (or at least burps). Then hook up your fuel line, turn fuel on, lay it over till it pees, kick like you mean it. If this gets it going then you probably have a bad needle seat that needs to be replaced, & until that is repaired I would turn the fuel off while the bike is running till it drained the carb. As mentioned above, you need compression, spark & fuel, sounds as if you have all but maybe too much fuel.
Keep us posted.

Bike has sat at BDC, carb cleaned up, reed inspected, filter cleaned and re-assembled, new tire, clutch plates, head and base gaskets, new brekes... kicked it over with plug in and out and still no spark. Re-checked ohms across everything and here is what I get. I do have a quility digital meter from craftsmen.
1990-on
Black/white to black/yellow 153-230 (mine 270, roughly +15%)
White/red to black/yellow 7.9-11.9 (mine 10.9)
Primary 1990-on: 0.26-0.36 ohms (mine .4)
2ndary 1990-on: 2.6-3.6 K ohms (mine 2.9K)
Kill switch tested good. Before I run dowm to Dennis Kirt (about 40 miles from my house) I'm going to through a coil of a friends bike in to see if I get spark. That slightly higher reading should not be that big of a deal and should put out some spark and most electical stuff is */- 15%. I still would like to be able to pull the flywheel off and looking for suggestion since the threads are buggered up. the bike is a 1995 and gave me no indications there was problems to come on last ride, in honesty it flew and starts on the 2nd or 3rd kick when cold and 1st when warmed up. running a 168 main and 55 secondary jet, 3rd clip on the neddle, air csrew 1.5 turns out, not set to idle with a 14/49 gearing.
