If it weren't for bad luck........
gwcrim:
Last week was rough. I had to put down a Husky 50. The engine was flat worn out and the bike is 9 years old. I got the piston and jug back for the PW80 and the cylinder was cracked in the mail. I tried to start my dad's '48 Mercury to no avail, the '73 Chevy convertible has a fuel leak.
On top of that, I got my '89 KX500 back together. It has 110 psi compression. I know... it's low... but acceptible. It seems to get spark. But even if I squirt ether into the carb, it won't start. If I put a new clean plug in AND a squirt of ether it gives a poof. Other than that and a couple of snorts as I was giving it a few primer kicks and it seems dead as a door nail.
I pull the plug and.... god I hate to think it.... but it almost seems like it's wet with coolant. The engine has never run since I put it together. Is this possible? Where would I look for the leak?

gwcrim:
New gasket: check.
Torqued to spec: wazzat???
Can't get a torque wrench on all the bolts. But they is tight!

torque the headbolts to specifications ,
you assembled the motor just recently ,it was a top end job with the motor still in the frame i assume?
gwcrim:
Pretty much a top end job with the motor in the frame. Actually, I pieced the engine together from a mish mash of used parts. I just want to get it running so I can sell it.
