greetings~~
« on: April 24, 2009, 11:12:42 AM »
Hey there. New member on this forum. I've picked up a 2005 KX250 and am making mods to run hare scrambles as an amateur. I must say, it's my first really modern dirtbike, and about 18 years since I've been off road. This thing is killler!!

So far I've added 13oz FWW, Utah skid plate, Zeta bark busters. It's geared stock at 13/51.
I'm fiddling with the clickers now. Question is this. On all forums I search they say Compression is on the bottom and Rebound on top, but on my 2005 the fork top says COMP (S-H) for adjsutment. Am I to assume it;s the compression on top and the models changed.
I'm starting full soft and working backwards to find my best point. I ride rocky terrain in Nova Scotia.
thanks
Bear with me .. I'll have lots more ???

They switched it around with the 05 and up 250s. Comp. on top and rebound on the bottom. Im in the middle of setting up a new 07 for enduros here in NJ. For our tight terrain, I feel that the gearing is too tall and will try a 12/49 combo this weekend. Maybe a 12/50. The redesigned engine, 05-07, lacks some lowend compared to my 04 KX250, old styled engine. But from the mid on up, the 07 stomps the 04! Future mods will be a FMF Gnarly or Pro Circuit Platinum 2 pipe, both good low end pipes, and maybe a V force reed cage. Keep us up to date with your mods and settings and welcome!
A couple of 03 and 04 KXs, a few YZs, 3 PE 400s, a DR and a TS.

Well glad to be here!
I'm just fddling around and set my sag last night. Found that it was at 130mm of sag. I set it to 105. My free/static sag is 25 mm. which is telling me the spring is ok for my 195 lbs.
I backed out the fork compression to full soft to test in a sand pit.
I found the front end washed out very easy and the rear kicked big time on small jumps.
I dialed 5 clicks back in on the front end to see how it handles tomorrow.

any ideas for a newbie?? This bike rips!!! I love my ZX12 but for pure kick in the pants,,, dirt bikes will see my road rocket sitting lonely this summer!

If you took out 25mm of sag you need to add a few clicks of rebound (try 4-5) and see how much "kick" it takes out. Also if you go to light on the front end it will dive into the stiff part of the travel & cause the front to wash out. I have had the best success with shorter dog bone links to get the bike to turn.
