Looking for lower triple clamp
« on: March 17, 2009, 11:04:52 AM »
I'm in need of a lower triple clamp for an '04 KX250.  I took the fork tubes out and I can see it's tweaked a bit.  I've checked ebay but can't find anything at this moment.  I was curious if there were any other year/models that would match what I'm looking for?  Like will a bottom clamp for an '02 or '03 work?  What a bout a clamp from a KX125?

Any help would be appreciated.

Go here: http://www.kawasaki.com/Products/product-specifications.aspx?id=211

On the left, click owner info, and that will let you navigate to parts diagrams.

You will have to look up years and models individually, but you can find out by part # which ones will interchange. 125's and 250's have shared many chassis parts over the years, so I would check both models.

To narrow your search, you might check out the site of an aftermarket triple clamp maker. In many cases, they will list one part # that fits a range of bikes. That will give you a range of models and years to confirm on the Kawi site.

When I look them up on the Kawi fiche, the first 5 digit part number is the same but the 4 digit reference numbers are different......44037-1439 for the '03 KX125 and 44037-0007 for the '04 KX250

But then I go to the Pro Taper website and their complete triple clamp kit #02-2831 (stock offset) will fit 03-05 KX125 and 03-07 KX250.

So I'm assuming if there is a difference in the stock lower clamps between the two bikes, it might be a small enough difference that they might work. Am I looking at this wrong?

I think you're looking at it right. From what I have found, the first 5 digits are like a group # for a part category, then the last 4 spell out the exact part.

Differing part #'s may not mean that they won't work, it just may be different becase the factory made a slight change such as changing the casting slightly to loose weight or gain strength. Different, yes. Bolt on and work perfectly, maybe.

The reason that I use the aftermarket as a starting point is that those companies do thier homework very well before they put a part on the market. They don't want anyone bitching and moaning about a part that didn't fit thier bike.

Some times the parts numbers are not the same because of color.  In reality my KX500AF is a 2008 KX450F chassis.  I bought a rear wheel from a 2006 KX450F.  Same wheel different part numbers, 06 has a silver rim 08 has a black rim.

Well I found out a bottom clamp and steering stem from a '03 KX125 will work on my '04 KX250.

I wasn't 100% sure it would fit right, but went ahead and bought one off of Ebay.  It showed up today and everying went back together real smooth.  Front wheel is back in-line with the handle bars.   :-D
