Good dez gearing

Searched but only found ancient threads.

I currently use 14/48 for the singletrack stuff we have here.  I take a couple trips a year to socal for dez rides. What is a popular choice for socal dez riding?

I'm thinking of just getting a 15 tooth C/S sprocket and trying it.
