whats the best brand(type) of paint for the plastic
turtle22:
so i got a new tank, only problem its purple. yes thats right, purple. not sure why they would do that to the very manly kx500. so i want to paint it to match the rest of the bike. i have tried a product called "fusion" with ok results. anyone got something that will give great results. tips or anything else? thanks
KX500freak:
i have not worked with fusion.
but as far as my findings with painting/painted mx tanks ,don,t go there i,d say
it,ll come off one way or another ,for sure if u use it for mx /trials
had seen briljant sprayed tank, done with high qual.car lack ,
and it was damaged by barks and hits ,
wouldn,t look good anymore ,repair was impossible, the tank was done quite thick,
and whole craters were in the paint .
but that,s just my 2cent :-)
slow600:
fusion will not stick to tank due to fumes out-gassing (i think thats the correct term).
turtle22:
d**n, so am i stuck with a purple tank?
KXcam22:
The fusion is pretty good plastic paint. The next step up is autobody type plastic paint systems (plastic prep/primer/adhesion promoter/paint) The issues (as mentioned before) is the out gassing of the fumes through the plastic. Thats why tank graphics have holes in them. I have seen graphics that cover the side of the kx tank almost covering the color. There are also companies on ebay that make fabric tank covers that look pretty good (in pics anyway). On TT I ran into a writup from someone dying a blue tank black, with instructions and pics. Did a good job and claims is lasts. Worth a look. Cam.
