Air box dampers?

They are designed to allow more air into the air box.  Unless you ride at high RPM always (ice and SM) I doubt that you would tell a difference.  I couldn't.  I kept mine closed always to reduce filter maintenance and keep water out.  My KX ran quite nicely with water up to the seat. My 450 has similar openings, although not nearly as sophisticated as the K5.  I blocked them off with closed cell foam. Cam.

i leave them shut i could not find any differnce with them open,,in our testing so i  thought why let the dirt and water in
