Hello all my name is Tim, I have been lurking for a couple of months and decided to join since there is a wealth of information on this site. I have always wanted to own the 'muscle car' of dirt bikes, so I bought a clapped out 1987 KX 500 with visions of restoring to the best of my ablities over the next year or longer depending on the finances. I plan on using the useful 87 KX 500 build sheet on this web and perhaps update another spreadsheet as I progress on my build. I have already experience some trouble in finding parts.
Anyways thanks for having me and I will quit rambling...my other projects are (all take a back seat to the KX at this time):
'01 RM 125
'89 RM 250
'85 Jeep CJ7
And for fun since the above are all in pieces I ride around on a '06 FXSTB Nighttrain.

Welcome to the site. I also restored a 87 kx500 and put together that parts/supplier list you speak of together but that's been a few years ago and things are mostly likely tighting up on parts. I have since gotten rid of the 87 500. Post what parts you going to need and we'll try to help locate them. This was my bike a year or two after restoring it. I rode it every weekend in the woods and loved it.

Hughes that is/was a nice bike (thanks for posting the pics). If mine turns out like that I will be grinning from ear-to-ear. The bike I bought does run but hadn't had a chance to really take it out and scare myself due to missing chain guide plates on the swing arm. The chain guide plates are not available for the 1987 and not sure if an 88 or new model will fit. I will post some pictures of my work-in-progress as soon as I figure out how to do so.
