Paul, What jetting shoud I use for Glamis? I have a 01 with reed spacer and the FMF Gnarly pipe.

Thanks!

Alan :D

Paul:
My setup is:

178 Main
58 Pilot
3rd clip on needle
2 turns on airscrew

a 50:50 mix of 92 and Sunoco Purple (110 octane) which yeilds 101 octane mix. Run that 40:1 with Maxima Super M

Thanks! And If I stick with my gas and oil mix 93 octane with Kawi Kem @32:1?

Paul:
Hell I don't know  .

A safe rule of thumb is to go UP two main jet sizes to compensate for the harder working engine in the sand. The extra fuel / oil helps to keep the big-end bearing alive when you're on it constantly ;)

32:1?!?!?! Are you TRYING to plug that thing up  That is a carry over from the air cooled days. I've run my '01 (bought Dec '00) on 50:1 since brand new, except when I go to Glamis - 40:1 then.

alan:
You are right about the old air cooled bikes, just showing my age again! d**n  I looked in my old YZ490 manual and the recommended 24:1 d**n that's almost straight oil! No wonder we fouled plugs!

When I bought the bike is was told to run 32:1, so that's what I have been using.

I used an octane booster in my YZ490 due to the high compression ratio and the detonation problem. Explain why you use the race gas mix.

Thanks?

Alan
