Best Octane to run KX500 on ?

Mate's saying run the beast on the highest octane possible cause it will run cooler. Highest I can purchase here in New Zealand is 98 octane. (without race license which I do not have)

Note it states 90 Octane or higher in Clymer manual.


If its true it runs cooler the higher the octane how does that actually work ?

(Is the explosion more efficient ? Would have thought been hotter)
