shifter compatibility

The shifter on my '89 500 is worn out.  Are all years shifters the same?  P/Ns are different.  Was there a spline change or shaft size difference?  Or????

Not much changed from 89-04 so I doubt the shifters are different.

the shifters have a bigger spline diamter on later moters ,find out what year the part number changed,,then we will know

1994-2006 NOS Kaw.  Shift Lever. Fits models KX125, KX250, KX 500. also KX60. Part# 13156-1347.

Do not know how reliable this info is, since I pulled it from ebay.

But I would like to know the answer too now.
