Maintenance & Technical > KX500 Original

what premix and what ratio

<< < (3/4) > >>

KX500freak:
my brand is castrol R2

that is german stuff and i would put it on the same level as bel ray ,
cause they are also in for the best product .

i mix it at 40 to 1 and never had issues doing so,
my manual says also 32 to 1 but it seems to much oil,
since oil is taking an amount of space in the mixture,
where there is too much oil , then there,s no fuel or air there ..

mine,s smoking excessively at lower mixture,s then 40 to 1
so the whole set up is for 40 to 1
spark,s good tan looking
clean port and exhaust

and that awesome fumes of it after a ride
i stick my nose in the muffler just to check the state of the engine ,
and i,m addicted by 2smoke

Do a search on this topic and you will find lots of background.  I ran Belray MC-1 at 60:1 in my K5 for 400 hrs (est), 14 years on original top end.  On rebuilt there was little wear and no carbon. Didn't even have to clean the powervalve.  Now that I live in 4 stroke land I run it at 200:1 for some extra top end life (and the nice smell). Time will tell if I am right (or wrong).  In my racing days I ran MC-1 at 85:1.  Good stuff. Cam.
