Just bought a '02 KX125 to start my KX-D 200 project. The stock suspension is pretty lousy and I'm not sure if it will work for me. My question: will forks and shocks swap over from later generation bikes? Does anybody know the year ranges and bikes that will work? I'd like to keep it simple and use my existing caliper and wheel. I'm 160 lbs and will be riding hare scrambles. Any chance some stock susp from another bike will work ok without putting any money into it? Any help is much appreciated! Thanks guys.
You have about the latest generation that will work on your bike, there was a change in 03, now having said that you can retrofit just about anything to anything, how much money do you want to spend? On my 02 I used 04 250f forks and shock, the forks were easy, just use the 250f triple clamps and the 250 stem, the shock on the other hand was more difficult, it had to have the bolt area shortened to be the same length as the 250. The 02 stuff was pretty good, as others suggested you may be better off investing your money in valving and springs, if you buy a set off ebay, you may still have to rebuild them. I've bottom a few sets, and I won't pay much money because I know that I'm going to have to totally rebuild them, so going in I'm not disappointed, I expect the worse and most of the time thats what I get.
