It has a short stroke so, I think, they put a kx crank(longer stroke) in it with plenty of mods to make it happen. I first heard about the 540 kit on here. It requires that you lose the powervalve. If you do that you might as well get a CR.

You can do a 540 or for that matter a 560 without losing the powervalve, the 87-88 cylinder works well using a honda rod and piston and a cylinder spacer. motor builds loads of torque but doesn't rev as quick. You can do a 535 with out changing the Rod using a LA sleeve piston (89mm).
I agree with both Gowen and Stewart, a well tuned k5 with a few aftermarket parts can be a rocket. I have both a 535 and a 560, and frankly my stock bored 500 is easier to ride, the 535 is on nitrous so it has a cast iron sleeve (plated cylinder will not hold up to NOS), I use the 560 as a spare motor because the stock bored setup works really well.
For my .02 I would get my stock bored motor working well, such as a lectron, v force, PC exhaust, head and cylinder mods and maybe a crank balance.

That's why I want to do a 88x88 mm engine. I think that's a great Idea but there are some thing that need to be addressed. Lots of welding needs to be done to make it dependable.
