Question about Reliability

(1/1)

conanrules1:
Hey Everyone...

I've been reading tons of comments on YouTube saying that the KX's reliability is not very good.  Is this true?  I owned a 1995 CR500R and that bike was pretty much bomb-proof.  I just bought a 1997 KX 500...was it a mistake?  Should I expect lots of issues?  What issues are common trouble points?

Thanks for any replies.

stewart:
i never have had anything break execpt kick starters  stock cast pistons and stock clutch kits

KX500freak:
i,m riding kx 500 on daily base and i find it very reliable.
the only thing happened was a view busted sparkplugs,
due too a little bit off search for the perfect carb.setting,
which is done and after that no more fooling plugs

so you bought an 97 er ?
there is a few things to check if you want

is the subframe not cracked
is the exhaust properly mounted and the muffler,s inner perforated pipe ?
its often that they come loose due too vibratin, jumps ,hits taken...

and you have too set some bolts a bit tighter for not loosing them one after another

these are the week spots on a kx 500 in general

KX500freak:

but you do follow me ,
if i say there are a few week spots ,

exhaust mounting cracking or
muffler inner perforated pipe can come loose
3 rd gear is vulnerable
alu sub frame cracks

these are things i had to deal with so that,s why i mentioned them
there,s only one true dirtbike for me
and it,s ......
