New KX owner
« on: July 20, 2007, 10:41:37 AM »
I recently ended up with a couple KXs. Shortly after while trying to hunt down info I found this site.
I was given a 1993 KX125 for free which was a little rough around the edges. But after a few hours of TLC, all fastners replaced, new bearings through-out, sprockets/chain, fresh plug/brakes/fluids, etc. this actualy a ripper of a 125! It has a smaller happy zone than my ex-wife, but like the ex when you hit that spot you forget about the drawbacks :-D
Then today I pick up a 1991 KX500. The bike has seen its share of dune time with a rider much biger than myself and has a broken shift shaft. So it too will need to be gone through (to a greater extent than the 125). But it is complete and at $750 the price seemed right to me.

I have a couple older (early 80's) roadrace cars too (GT-3). But they are in the midst of restoration. One was a Pro. Mazda factory IMSA-RS car in it's prime (1985 manufacter champ car). The other was a really nice SCCA GT-3 since new in 1980. Its a BMW 320i.

I have a few questions right out of the gate, so I will get some posts going elswhere on the site over the coarse of the weekend.
This really seems like a well run site. I was stoked to find it!

I have another post regarding creating a hybrid of these two bikes or keeping the pair. It's in the KX500 page (I posted a request that it be moved to general).

It's nice when a message board is done well (like this one) and so d**n frustrating when they are not kept up. So kudos and thanks to the moderators here for that!
